All too often, hospitality businesses implement marketing plans as a desperation move – the bottom line is dropping, or a keen competitor has just opened and is taking customers and/or grabbing media attention. Short-term results are sought, even though a good marketing plan is meant for the long haul, to create and sustain loyal customer relationships (over time).
In a competitive marketplace, it is not enough simply to choose your customers and the products/services that they want. You must position enterprise in relation to all others that are competing for the same market segment. This positioning involves two elements: customers and competitors.
