Why is it critical that you consider the needs of students with disabilities when planning instruction?

Based on your textbook and readings throughout this course, why is it so important to be able to use effective instructional strategies in your lessons?
Using effective instructional strategies will help prepare the students for life during and after they leave school. Students learn in various ways and have the different skill set. Students ’ individual needs may stem from their differing abilities and interests, their social and ethnic backgrounds, or their prior opportunities. (McDonnell, McLaughlin, & Morison, 1997, p.12). Focusing on each student’s skills will help them master any goals. Using different effective strategies will also help the teacher provide feedback to students, other educators and parents. Using modification is another benefit for students who have a learning disability and using their IEP will improve their learning experience. Applying effective instructional strategies to the lessons will promote student & teacher engagement, focus on students learning, develop student-teacher relationships, focus on students develop and build student confidence.
Why is it critical that you consider the needs of students with disabilities when planning instruction?
We must consider the needs of the students with disabilities because we want to utilize the skills they already have to learn. The teacher must motivate the students and students with disabilities might need extra assistance with learning. We also want the students to have the equal opportunity when it comes to learning by adjusting the lesson plans. All students will learn the same material but in different ways and at their own speed. Creating a fully accepting and successfully functioning culture for all students, regardless of their differences, is a challenge that must be tailored to each individual school community. (Hudgins, 2012, P.80, Para.1) Considering their needs also promotes diversity in the classroom and cultural differences which benefit all students.
